I’m a journalist, business writer, commentator, consultant and speaker with over two decades’ experience covering developments in information technology and their implications for business and society.

My background has given me an in-depth understanding of the issues and challenges organisations face, and the ability to distil and communicate these with clarity and precision for a variety of audiences. In recent years I have combined traditional journalism with blogging, analysis and event consultancy.

I have worked extensively with senior IT leaders in the corporate and public sector to:

  • Provide insight and intelligence on technology-driven business trends and new business models;
  • Develop compelling content for events and conferences;
  • Foster more effective internal and external communications;
  • Help break down the barriers to organisational change.

I also have a keen interest in the high-tech start-up sector, particularly having been a long-time user and advocate of technologies such as social networking tools and online productivity applications. Tracking this sector has put me in contact with a vibrant community of entrepreneurs employing successful new business models, many of which I believe point the way forward for mainstream organisations.

Prior to going freelance I was editor of “Business & Technology”, a forward-thinking monthly of the mid-late 1990s which was among the first UK publications to champion enlightened business thinking such as the need for environmental and social responsibility and the potential business benefits of open web technologies and remote mobile working. Many of these notions – deemed dubious or even heretical at the time – are now part of mainstream business thinking.

Before “Business & Technology”, I held a variety of writing and editing positions on leading IT weekly “Computing” and IT trade monthly “The VAR”. Over my years as a freelance journalist, I have written for national, consumer and trade titles and online media, including “The Guardian”, Silicon.com, fashion weekly “Draper’s”, “Accountancy Age”, “Computer Weekly” and “Stuff”.

Private clients for my writing and consultancy services have included The Winmark CIO Network and CIO Connect (both networking forums for senior IT leaders in FTSE 250 corporations and large public-sector organisations), Steria, recruitment company La Fosse Associates, Computacenter, IBM, Fujitsu, Microsoft and ICI.
